There are several ways that you can help Home-Start Stroud District in a voluntary capacity:

  • by supporting a family as a home-visiting volunteer
  • by supporting families at a Group Start group
  • by becoming a trustee
  • by helping us with fundraising

Home-Visiting Volunteers

Home-Start Stroud District’s home-visiting volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parents themselves or have parenting experience and are carefully selected for their friendliness and understanding. All volunteers attend a preparation course before being matched with a family. They then take their own individual skills and experience to the families they visit. Our volunteers offer their time and friendship and accept a parent as they are.

If you can help us we would love to hear from you, please Contact Us.

We Need Volunteers a

All parents know that those early years before children go off to school are vital in a child’s life and at Home-Start we believe parents have the key role in creating a secure childhood for their children. It’s just that sometimes they need a bit of help…..your help. Our volunteers, who know about being a parent, support other parents by visiting them in their own homes for a couple of hours each week.

The only real “qualification” Home-Start volunteers need is expereince of bringing up children. Friendliness and a caring attitude are essential as well as an understanding of the pressures of parenting. All volunteers participate in a preparation course which is accredited by the Open College Network. Volunteers say that they get a lot out of volunteering and it may even be a step on the ladder for the next job. Training and support continues while you are volunteering.

As a volunteer you will receive out of pocket expenses.

We need MAlesAll Home-Start asks of its volunteers is to commit to one year of volunteering and understand that support for families is completely confidential. References are taken up and an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check is carried out on all volunteers.
